Milestone reached for the Kitas - we are very pleased

Yesterday afternoon, the Basel Grand Council approved the daycare reform with an overwhelming majority.

Yesterday afternoon, the Basel Grand Council approved the daycare reform with an overwhelming majority.

This is a great success for us! We have increased our Concerns about improving the staffing ratio and wages in daycare centers were pushed through. The main innovations are:

  • Internship positions are replaced by qualified personnel and are no longer included in the care ratio
  • Salaries of professional staff are adjusted to the level of day structures of elementary schools
  • Reduction of Kita price for parents to a maximum of CHF 1,600 per month
  • Company childcare centers new with childcare contributions and previous system remains in place

We are all very happy and relieved that the counter-proposal was accepted to this extent. The SP has announced that it will withdraw its initiative.

Then we can start the implementation together. The Department of Education is already in the process of drawing up the ordinances and guidelines, and discussions with our corporate partners will take place in the coming days and weeks.

First of all, however, we are delighted with this extremely gratifying development and would like to express our sincere thanks to all those involved and who have contributed to us achieving this together. We can be proud of what we have achieved 😉 and this milestone also does justice to our new mission statement.

Sibylle Schürch, the president of the association, would like to emphasize: "Many people actively participated and got involved. It was a fantastic team effort. Our managing director Monika Bitterli deserves the greatest thanks. She forged alliances, sat at the table with politicians and convinced them in numerous discussions with her high level of expertise. For more than a year, she worked tirelessly for what we can celebrate today as a success for the children, parents and employees. I am proud of this and thank Monika from the bottom of my heart. Equally, thanks are due to the ED, RR Conradin Cramer and his team, and thanks to the politicians who have been pragmatic and determined in making these improvements possible."

With this step, Basel-Stadt is once again taking a pioneering role at the national level. This helps to keep the topic topical and increases the pressure on the other cantons for alignment.
